With our recent Water Management Act Permit, issued by Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, one of the special conditions of the permit was to address Summer Limits on Withdrawal using a calendar trigger. This is to limit the non-essential outside water use from May through September of each year to protect stream flow for aquatic life and ensure a sustainable drinking water supply.
We would like to explain what this means for our customers:
There will be no non-essential residential outdoor water use allowed on a daily basis. For example:
Automatic lawn sprinklers
Washing of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and building surfaces
We will be allowing outdoor water use on Tuesday and Thursday of each week only.We encourage all of our customers to be conscious of the amount of water that is being used. All water conservation steps should be taken. For example:
washing your vehicle for safety reasons only
watering your garden and/or lawn after 5:00 p.m. and before 9:00 a.m. with a hand held hose
There are no restrictions on water use for the following:
Health and Safety reasons
For the production of food and fiber
For the maintenance of livestock
To meet the core functions of a business
In the event that a drought order is issued, all outdoor water use will be suspended immediately.
We would like to thank our customers in advance for their cooperation and support to conserve our valuable drinking water resources.
